Event: Tortured Soul at the Jazz Cafe

Tortured Soul
Friday, 6 November 2009 at the Jazz Cafe

Tortured Soul’s style combines elements of old soul and funk with a modern dancefloor sensibility. Since the release of their 2006 debut album, the trio - former Cooly’s Hot Box drummer Christian Urich together with bassist Jason Kriveloff and keyboard player Ethan White - have astounded audiences worldwide. In the UK they have twice performed in the main room at the Southport Weekender, played the Big Chill Festival, and sold out London shows at the Jazz Café. Their music has featured on Hed Kandi, Ministry and Defected compilations.

In Europe they have played more than 100 live dates in the past three years, with shows in France, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Holland, Sweden, Finland and Lithuania.

The new album has more driving soulful house winners, from opening track “Home To You” to “Your Dream Is My Dream”, as well as the Jamiroquai-flavoured “Special Lady” and the Latin party vibe of “We Like Tequila”. They are the undisputed worldwide leaders in live soulful house music, and the new album (released on Dome) will see them gaining mainstream acceptance.
