About Staying Alive

In 1998, MTV successfully launched an international campaign to encourage HIV/AIDS prevention, promote safer lifestyle choices and fight the stigma and discrimination that fuels the epidemic. Prevention and knowledge were two important issues, but a vehicle was needed in order to empower and mobilize young people on a grass roots level.The Result: the birth of the Staying Alive Foundation in 2005. Using MTV's unique and creative communication with its audience, the Staying Alive Foundation gives grants to innovative youth-focused HIV/AIDS projects worldwide. From its inception, the Foundation has given $500,000 spanning over 40 countries ultimately giving young people a stake in their own future.
